CRE Tech Rule 9: Never let a written specification get in the way of a good idea.

Never let a written specification get in the way of a good idea.

When building a technology for CRE you’ll likely find yourself with a functional spec and roadmap.  Most of your build will try to follow these two documents.  Don’t treat these as Gospel.

New ideas occur everyday.  And most new ideas are bad.  But occasionally an idea will strike that can’t help but change your entire strategy. LET IT!

The world changes on a daily basis.  What worked yesterday won’t necessarily work tomorrow.  Today’s good may be tomorrow’s dated.  That great new idea may just be the thing that pushes you over the top and makes you a success.

This doesn’t mean you can sacrifice your schedule though.  You must still release early and often.  This rule means that you must ensure that you are flexible enough to adapt to these changes as they come up.  Don’t lock your self  into a direction that can’t change.
