A Marketing Philosophy You can Adopt Immediately

Most people I come across think of marketing as something they have to do.  It should be better than the competition and explain what they do.

I disagree.  Often on both points (but on the first point it’s only because I’m an engineer who struggles making things look “marketed”).

My definition of marketing is doing something in a way that no one else is.  Don’t use the same words.  Don’t use the same medium.  Don’t use the same topic.  Heck, these days it often means not using words at all.  Just show what you do and let the story write itself.

Marketing is difficult but often made more so through the bland and unnecessary activities that so many people take.  Don’t be bland.  You want people to ask you what it means.  You want a conversation.
