Perfection is impossible in the service industry – and often not desired.

It’s been awhile since I brought up a Seth Godin post but yesterday’s was great:  Abandoning perfection.

Perfection implies that your job doesn’t and isn’t going to change.  Perfection implies that you know everything that can be known about what you are doing.  Perfection implies that alternatives are not a good thing.

I don’t want to deal in perfection.  I want to live in a world of continuous improvement.  Breaking things is fun and useful.  Not giving everything they want in the name of giving them what they need today is a virtue.

Abandon your pursuit of perfection and seek simply improvement.
